However, delving deeper into causal relationships—what causes what, and through what mechanisms effects occur—has been challenging as it requires considering the influence of multiple factors. Particularly in areas involving complex elements such as food preferences, lifestyle habits, and physique, precise data analysis is required.In this research, Genequest's extensive genetic and questionnaire data were combined with Fujitsu's causal AI, utilizing Fujitsu's high-speed causal discovery function to analyze these complex causal mechanisms more deeply. This demonstrated the ability to precisely analyze hidden factors within complex relationships and the interactions between various factors, contributing to the creation of new value.ResultsIn this research, causal analysis was conducted primarily in the following two areas, using genetic data and questionnaire data from approximately 4,000 consenting individuals, and leveraging the reliability enhancement function and measure proposal functions provided by Fujitsu's causal AI.1. Relationship between genetic traits related to alcohol metabolism and eating habitsWhile genetic factors were previously suggested to influence a preference for sweet foods and coffee intake, analysis using causal AI revealed that the association is likely mediated primarily by drinking frequency, rather than solely by genetic alcohol tolerance. Furthermore, for coffee consumption frequency, no direct link to drinking frequency was observed, suggesting that genetic alcohol tolerance may be an influencing factor. This highlights the potential impact of specific genetic traits on an individual's beverage choices.2. Relationship between genetic traits related to physique, eating habits, and BMIUsing polygenic scores, an index integrating numerous genetic factors related to BMI, the causal relationship between genetic predisposition to obesity, eating habits, and BMI was analyzed. The results suggested a direct association between genetic predisposition to obesity and BMI, with its statistical impact being comparable to that of sex and age. Slight associations were also observed with food preferences such as for fatty and sweet foods.Particularly, in the analysis utilizing the reliability enhancement function by repurposing the Hirosaki Health Checkup Causal Network Model, more precise results were obtained. The influence of meal quantity, previously suggested as a major factor in BMI change after polygenic scores in earlier analyses, decreased relatively, while preferences for fatty and umami tastes were suggested as more influential factors. The ceremony took place at the Enoura Plant of MHI's Shimonoseki Shipyard & Machinery Works in Yamaguchi Prefecture. The new ferry will serve on a shipping route between the cities of Otaru in Hokkaido and Maizuru in Kyoto Prefecture.At the ceremony, Shinnihonkai Ferry President Yasuo Iritani christened the new ferry "HAMANASU," the Japanese word for a species of native shrub rose. The ceremonial rope cut was performed by Nozomi Kobayashi, ship travel ambassador for the Japan Passengerboat Association. The ship's handover is scheduled for June 2026 following completion of outfitting work and sea trials. The HAMANASU is the tenth ferry built by Mitsubishi Shipbuilding for Shinnihonkai Ferry.The HAMANASU utilizes the latest energy-saving vessel design, including being one of the second ferries in Japan to incorporate a buttock-flow stern hull(1) and a ducktail,(2) along with a KATANA BOW. The launch will take place from Tanegashima Island on October 21, 2025 using H3 Rocket No. 7, a new mainstay launch vehicle built in Japan.The items will be transported to the International Space Station (ISS) using HTV-X, a new Japanese-built unmanned cargo transfer spacecraft that will undergo its first demonstration test with this launch, and arrangements are being made with JAXA for the brewing test to be conducted in the Japanese experiment module Kibo on the ISS by astronaut Kimiya Yui. The items will be launched on the new Japanese-made H3 rocket, which commenced operation in 2024, together with the HTV-X, the resupply vehicle being used to transport them to the ISS, which is being taken to space for the first time. Upon arrival at the ISS, the brewing equipment will be set up and water will be placed inside to start multiple parallel fermentation, a fermentation reaction unique to Japanese sake, for the test brew. DASSAI will brew the sake during the mission and MHI has been developing the space brewing equipment. Processes such as the loading of the equipment on the rocket at the launch site, followed by the launch and the operations at the ISS, will be a collaborative effort between JAXA and various Japanese administrative bodies, companies such as MHI, and other organizations, for an all-Japanese technological endeavor.Testing in orbit will commence around 10 days after the launch, with the sake brewed in a 1/6G environment, equivalent to the gravity of the moon's surface, over a period of approximately two weeks while various data is monitored from Earth. After the fermentation in space is completed, the raw sake will be frozen and stored in orbit; it is expected to be brought back to earth no sooner than the end of the year. The two companies will advance development through this collaboration.All-solid-state batteries, which are primarily composed of a cathode, anode, and solid electrolyte, are a next-generation battery technology that offers the potential for smaller size, higher output, and longer life compared to current liquid-based batteries that use electrolyte solutions. When used in BEVs, all-solid-state batteries are expected to deliver enhanced performance, such as longer driving range, shorter charging times, and higher output. Toyota is aiming for a market launch of BEVs with all-solid-state batteries in 2027-28.Since around 2021, the two companies have been conducting joint research on cathode materials for all-solid-state batteries, focusing on challenges such as cathode material degradation during repeated charging and discharging cycles. As a solution, leveraging Sumitomo Metal Mining's proprietary powder synthesis technology, the two companies have newly developed a "highly durable cathode material" suitable for all-solid-state batteries.
